A Summary Report for 30 years Church Music Ministry of NZCCMA 10th August 2019
NZCCMA was established in October 1989
As affiliated Member of The World Association for Chinese Church Music
Initial Locations were at churches in Pakuranga and Howick consisted Children Choir, Youth Strings ensemble group and Mothers Choir
We focused on community caring and support to new Chinese Immigrants via active musical participation in Kiwi Churches
Within the three to four years, Chinese Immigrants greatly increased in numbers, followed by many churches being established, NZCCMA has been actively cooperating with church gospel ministries. The Oratorio Choir was formed in April 1993 at St David’s Presbyterian Church Auckland. Community Tea Party, Evangelistic meetings and Revival meetings were held at various parts of Auckland and also Christmas Caroling at Queen Street CBD Auckland.
In March 1996 Choir Presentation in conjunction with the dedication of newly renovated church hall of Holy Trinity Cathedral
And Easter Celebration: (Easter Sound and Sight) series of musical presentation. Choir Presentation in October 1996 Commemorating World Holy Communion at St David’s Church: Multicultural Night.
December 1996 : Joyful Christmas Night ,followed by the establishment of Auckland Chinese Churches Combined Choral Worship
1998 – 2000 WACCM Honorary President Mr. David P.L. Yeung and Prof Chi Bing Yap, General Secretary Advisor Ka Kwong Lau were accompanied by composer Bach Ying Chun Wu visited Auckland, they conducted various Sacred Music Seminars: WACCM Night 1999, Praise Millenium 2000 combine choir service.
July 2004 Youth Choir from Chicago gave touching musical evangelism presentation to inmates at Mt Eden Prison. The following night Presented at St David’s Church The 1st “International Youth Night”, attended by PIC Samoa Church and Korean congregation, hence formed the Annual Auckland Inter-church Multicultural Choral Hymn Festival.
2008 Cultivate talented musicians, thus formed The Chamber Choir & Oratorio Orchestra to upgrade the standard of members and reaching out to more music ministries.
2009 celebrated The 20th Anniversary of NZCCMA by conducting series of seminars at various areas included children music training.
Saturday Sacred Music College provided a platform for enhancing believers’ church music master plan: Strengthening Sacred Music education, knowing great sacred music works, Chinese and western both classic and contemporary hymns, enhancing vocal technique, general knowledge of church music, congregational hymns, order of worship, music theory, part singing, conducting, music accompanist etc.
2010-2012 There were 12 churches successfully hosted The 21st WACCM Music Conference held in
Auckland Baptist Tabernacle.
The 30th Anniversary Celebration of NZCCMA was held in conjunction with The 2019 Auckland Chinese Churches Combined Choral Worship Thanksgiving Service. Every NZCCMA colleagues, tutors and members are humbly encouraging each other with gratitude before the Lord. Commemorating the past years also looking forward to the future with the hope towards various church pastors, leaders and choir pioneers would fervently contribute advice and support to NZCCMA.
